2Degrees and Mobile Broadband

The Business Problem

Innovation is tech’s heartbeat, powering cheaper, improved services, and  driving competitive edge. Internet connectivity through the mobile network ticks those boxes – but fiddling with telco IT and operational stacks is complex and risky. Our deep  NZ and UK telco experience, plus a close and established 2d connection, meant Luminate understood this well.

The Fix

Finding the right PM for this business-critical project was an essential advantage. And our proven knowledge of telco and 2degrees’ IT and culture helped maintain C-suite confidence, with a confidence to take end-to-end accountability inspiring the team. Keeping a united group was critical for the collaborative delivery cycle the project required.

The Outcome

Technical and operational complexity, business criticality, and an incredibly high C-suite profile mean cold sweats for any PM. But working closely with the business owner guaranteed an understanding of Day One’s operating model, with a clear North Star covering teams who ran towards the fire. This drove a complex delivery home, both on time and budget.

Lessons Learned

  1. A commitment  to the business owner to understand 2degrees’ drivers underpinned our assignment of a PM. Getting this right set the success tone, rippling out through planning and delivery and up and down stakeholder and decision levels. In business-critical programmes, optics and EQ are just as essential as delivery – something this project nailed.

Customer Feedback

“Business critical programmes need just the right programme manager. Luminate worked with us up front to understand our drivers. Doing this delivered the right  programme manager for  our business culture and stakeholders. They ensured on time delivery of a complex programme, to budget, and with a scope enabling us to over- achieve on our promise.”
